Yep, got one for driving up and down the country, was a cheap one and miss behaves now and again. Handy to have one that is the same plug as my phone and tablet as it gives a spare cable in the car

aside from coverage in case of accident — and proof (as if you needed it) of classic Kiwi driving… why have a dash cam?

Want proof of idiots on the road when things go pear shaped

Who knows, it may or may not be happening here already but reports from UK for some time have incidents of cars at intersections where the driver 1, with the right of way, waives driver 2 (without ROW) on, as if in courtesy, then the driver 1 drives speeds up and crashes into the other car with the appearance that driver 2 failed to give way. They must be able to also sue there otherwise it wouldn’t be a worthwhile scam. Of course, driver 2 is on the face of it in the wrong. This scam alone has promoted the use of dash cams over there.

Main use, as already stated is absolute proof of who was culpable in a crash. eg the tourists driving in the middle of the road that we saw recent dash cam footage on TV of. How often do you see newspaper ads of people wanting witnesses to a crash at such and such an intersection. And so on.

    Unfortunately, how things are now.

Also had a mate who was threatened recently by a road rager, no crash, just an idiot running back as though he was going to belt my mates car. All caught on my mate's dash cam.

If you've got an iPhone, there's OsmAndDVR App. Free version doesn't allow changing the frame rate, but it's cheaper than buying a stand alone dashcam.

If you own and operate the camera then you could be the one watching "big brother"

Note that police brutality in the states (for an example) has dropped with the amount of cellphone cameras around, esp with the advent of periscope and meerkat that can send videos straight up to youtube instantly
