I just checked the various shipping options available at Brownells checkout, there's 'Parcel Post Priority Mail International' and 'Parcel Post Express' which are both USPS, but also 'UPS Int'l Expedite', 'Bax Global' and 'Truck/Ocean' which may not be affected by the USPS suspension.

Truck/Ocean doesn't sound promising. A quick google search doesn't look great for Bax Global - not sure if it's even a current option? UPS Int'l Expedite is probably still available, but the online UPS calculator shows it costing NZ$350 to ship a package 50x10x10cm of 1kg. 30x5x5cm is 'only' NZ$250. Probably Brownells UPS rates are different to those on the UPS website, but everything looks pretty damn expensive. Back to the drawing board...

Nope it was selected UPS Int'l Expedite so looking a bit grim for us down under......problem with Brownells shipping costs they are a great unknown until they take your money and ship the goods......

Might be time to look elsewhere.

Have you queried them on that? How can they cancel on the grounds that a different shipping company than the one you're actually using has suspended shipping?

as I intimated

The problem with Brownells, Sinclair, Amazon... is the size of packaging they use often is massively out of proportion with the goods being shipped. I have amazed myself with what can be squeezed into a $3.50 prepaid NZ Postbag.

Asked the question of Brownells and got some flaky answer that the order is on hold until shipping can be arranged........not sure what that means but might be something to do with my query about providing shipping cost prior to completing the process......I had selected and asked specifically to use UPS ......!.

Just received a tracking update on my new press order which has been sitting in Chicago for sometime. Looks like it is being returned to sender. No doubt I'll get a refund less any shipping costs

I am presuming all the shipping will have to load on the same carrier to service NZ so if one cannot ship they probably all can't........?

Flights haven't been totally cancelled, just fewer than there used to be. I'd be pretty sure USPS could actually keep shipping out reduced numbers, but the price of the spot on the aircraft would have gone up so much as to make it uneconomic for them. Other services like FedEx were recently still shipping from the US in a reasonable timeframe, so there's still hope.

My delivery is still 'In transit to next Facility', which is apparently code for 'Expect a tracking update in a months time to announce it has arrived at the same place you thought it had left.' So far my delivery has 'arrived' in USPS Chicago 3 times, 'departed' from USPS Chicago 3 times, and gone through Customs at least twice. I particularly liked when they booked it out one morning only to book it back in late that same night. Maybe they thought my package was getting lonely sitting in the warehouse so they took it out for a day trip to see the sights? Nice of them...

Might be time for me to call up USPS customer service again - for what good that'll do.

Here's my latest package tracking. Over the years I've learnt to not get excited by the "In Transit to Next Facility" or "on track to be delivered to its final destination". And that was in better delivery times.
Looking at postings on other forums I'm not convinced this is all down to Covid.
Overall USPS have never been great.

That is indeed impressive. Almost feels like we should have some kind of a running competition thread going. Does it have to be successfully delivered in the end to qualify?

Ah, for the old days where it took a week to ship from the US to Auckland, and we complained that NZPost was being slow in taking another week to get it on the doorstep...
