Yesh I'd agree with that Andy but having had both theres something that trumps it makes it the nX8 glass look very average swarovski z8i 3.5-28x50, definitely buy far the best glass I've looked through and a handy mag range, with clearer top end than the NF, probably can't hammer a nail home with it though.Quote:

depends on your definition of long range.... the 2x7 and 3x9 have been main stays for years...the 2x7 is awesome up close...your NI bush hunting and on deer will get you out to reasonable distance..not head shot at 400 like but solid chest shoulder shots..the 3x9 will stretch that out slightly easier and both still have great field of view...
weight and size are two other considerations.
something 2x10 that didnt weight half a ton and wasnt half the size of rifle and didnt cost left arm and right testicle would be ideal.

The closest I have found is a March F 3-24x42 or a Leupold Mk6 3-18x44. I have both.
Opinions will vary. This is what I like.

the wee pig plex jobbies hard to beat for dedicated up close n personal work but a bit more at top end would be nice too.
I have a VX5 on my light weight bushpig, it has a light weight carbon stock and when carrying it feels top heavy and wants to flip over in your hand if you dont hold it tight.... i am thinking the scope is too heavy for the light stock... i really like the scope but as others have said there may be a better lighter option for a bush gun.

I have an Element Helix HD 2-16 x 50, which I rate.
I’ve been looking at the Arken EP-L 4-16 range too for another rifle, FFP and nice looking holdover reticle for hunting, but 4X can be a bit too much in the bush I find
Definitely rate my Helix HDLR but it is a heavy scope, if that matters. I've just moved mine back onto my 308win as it seems a perfect fit for it.Quote:

General feedback:
Vx5 3-15 is hard to beat for value and performance, I just changed everything to ffp and mil so it doesn’t tick those box’s
I have a March 3-24x42 great scope, I thought it was a bit dark on low light so went and bought 2x nx8 2.5-20 x 50 ffp mil, one for target gun one for hunting. I think the Nightforce glass is possibly worse than the March, and it has a 50mm objective….
Still have a Swaro 3-10x42, it’s a nice scope but no dials.
So no golden goose but I think my March is the closest I have to perfect for my needs so far
I have the Arken EP-L 4-16x44 mil ffp. I like the scope in general for steel target and farm shooting. The elevation and parallax turrets are way too big for a hunting scope, especially if you were taking it into the bush! I would prefer my old vortex pst1 ffp over the Arken for hunting.Quote:

If it was a one rifle for everything situation I would personally run a 3.6-18 Leupold mk5 or a 2.5-20 NF NX8 - Caveat being i have a lot of longer range experience and really like having a proper reticle for wind and any quick holdover calcs
For a more simple do it all scope I have an older Leica 2.5-10x42 ER with an MOA dial and single rev zero stop. It is an epic and simple all rounder but they don't come up for sale often. I have taken it out to decent distance
VX5 is a great option I would like the mil HTMR version one day
