    Dwr reproofing

Dwr reproofing I have alot off different water proof gear with working out side & hunting & 2 kids that come hunting regularly what's the best d.w.r. reproofing stuff out there I've tried a few different brands and to me it doesn't seem to do anything water beads for maybe the first few spits and then seems to stop I don't know if it's me & I'm expecting too much from product or not understand what's it's actually supposed to be doing because I thought the water was supposed to form droplets and bead off or I'm not doing stuff right but I do think I'm following the instructions what's other people's experiences

Had the same problem, expensive spray on waterproof, items all set up outside on coat hangers, sprayed twice. Works for five minutes then fail. Tried boiled linseed oil on a couple of items to make my own 'oilskin', too stiff and yellows in time - fail.
Find the thread here on using 1 part good quality roof and gutter silicon thinned with 2 parts Turps and painted on. Dont use on you 'dress' type ski jackets as it does leave a slight wet / plastic look. Tent floor, gun bags, Pack, gloves, nylon shell coat & pants

You can refresh a dwr finish on some garments with a warm (not super hot) iron according to a recent pod cast I listened to by a fabric guy.

Normally done after washing using a liquid, not powdered detergent.

    Might be worth a shot.

Nikeax Tx direct wash in seems to work quite well. I think its only one item per packet tho and as above after washing it’s recommended to spin in a warm dryer to “reactivate”

We can't buy any good DWR stuff anymore as it's bad for the environment.
Geko guard is a solvent based one that is the best I have tried....takes a couple of days to dry off fully before use tho.
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.

Bugger the environment but in reality it's probably more harmful on the environment buying new garments all the time because your ones keep leaking or keep getting condensation and sweating inside because of water won't bead & runoff

I tried the Nixwax ones on a goretex jacket and a couple other items recently. I’ve found it made a good difference on the goretex. I ran it through the Nixwax tech wash first. Couldn’t believe how much brighter it came out- had no idea it was so dirty. Then used their TX direct wash after to re-waterproof. Have used that jacket maybe a dozen times since and it’s much better than it was. Remains to be seen how well it’ll hold up though. But I do think the wash before the waterproof made a difference
