    Electronic Earmuffs

Have just purchased my first shotgun and been surprised at how loud it is (only a 20 gauge). It's been suggested by members here that I should get a set of electronic earmuffs and so I've started looking around. There are a few on TradeMe with a "generic" set costing about $75 plus p&p (though there are $1 reserves I could try) and the only other pair under $100 being Caldwell E Max at $90 plus p&p. I'd be very interested in others thoughts and suggestions. Am I silly trying to stay under $100 ? any brands people like or dislike in particular and why and should I look overseas or ??????

    Thanks for your help !!

    Cheers
    Derek

Peltor and 3M are good brands.

You only get one set of ears and one set of eyes...

Beware some nasty knock-offs on TM, if the price is too good to be true, it probably is

If you do a lot of shooting, especially precision rifle stuff, it is worth getting the tapered models specifically designed for shooting, as opposed to the normal industrial shape.

Which I find good. Google for a better deal maybe? And watch out for shipping costs.

OK, here's where I've got to for now. Caldwell Electronic Ear Muffs E Max Low Profile MP3 Hearing Protection 487557 | eBay which end up at about NZ$44 or are available here for about $100 or Howard Leight R 01526 Impact Sport Electronic Earmuff Shooting Ear Protection | eBay for about $80

Guess the question is: are the Howard Leight set worth the extra (they are folding and have auto off) OR should I reset and look elsewhere ??

    Cheers

Go the Howard Leight impact Earmuffs, i got a set from Amazon last month, not sure how much it was in NZ as i paid with Aussie dollars. but they fit well and work.

Just watch out for your smart ass friends who yell when sneaking up behind you, as the amp makes that yell "VERY LOUD"

Lucky i didn't have a shotty in my hands at the time......
