    Fairydown Milford warmth rating

    Hi all.

Was having a clear out and found my old bag from 24 odd years ago. I was going to loan it to a mate of mine who's just getting into hiking, but I figured I should double check what sort of temps they were good for. I remember waking up with frost on it back in the day, but I was a teenager and bulletproof back then.

So does anyone remember back in the day what these were good for?

well I have what was rated no 2 and that was an everest no 1 was the polar bags an iner and an outer designed for artic use - 3 ?? was a Kosciusko - dont recall a milford -does it have on label what is in it that will tell you the everest was 100% down- lower grades are a mixture of down and feather - my gut feeling is that it will be mid range

Nah, it's a thermolite insulation. No way my budget back then would have stretched to down. Nothing about temp on it or the stuff sack.

Full credit to fairydown, it's still in brand new condition even after a few decades. Heavy old beast though.

yeahh they were good my old everest is now 45 years old at least -now is starting to show its age - cold along seams even after a good airing just does not lift like it did when newer - when new if one really fluffed it up it looked like some one was in it

I have my old Everest Mummy that I saved up for and purchased for $62 when I was 14. And yes, is a bit clumpy as I did an awful lot of tramping and mountaineering in it, and it got soaked a lot more times than once!

But knock me down with a feather, I was in the hospice shop last year, and poking out of a corner of a whole mountain of stale bed quilts was 'that' color shiny green. Got an almost unused Everest tall, non mummy for $5 puffs up like when original

Yeah, it was "quick, grab it and pay for it before someone finds out what these are really worth!"

I’m like that when I find a Coleman gas cooker

Then after using it somewhere way the hell up a river somewhere I remember how good gas canister systems are

put it in the tumble drier on cold with tennis balls and a clean pair of shoes.....the down gets beaten up and shifted around again, the clumps get broken up and the bag will be back to nearly new lofting again...

Just be gentle don't give it arseholes from the get go as if a baffle is weak it can rip them in half and then you've got more issues...
