After a recent discussion on steels I thought I would discuss blade shape, just wondering what people generallo go for?
For skinning I usually use a fixed blade, with a 4-4.5 inch blade, similar handle length, drop point or spear point tip, I like a bit of belly and find that a recurve is a really good shape for me to use, giving me control with length for long cuts.
I like the handle to be stacked leather for a rat tail or linen micarta orG10 for full tang as they are all good in the wet, never tried wood or antler, but am not crazy on plastics.
I like a small guard to keep my hand slipping on to the blade when bloody, and I like a leather sheath.
Of course I am no butcher and my skinning is just to maximise my meat return, I am pretty slow and not good enough to collect a hide yet.
What's your go to blade for hunting?
