    It would depend on the terrain and the ability to make a sure shot. And the quarry.

    A .338 in the right hands at 800m is like a .308 at 400 tho. What i dont like is that if the animal needs a second shot then a LONG shot could mean that it suffers for too long while it waits for you to travel the distance. The struggling animal might fall behind obstructions or something
