Do folks have any experience with these GPS watches in a bush/hunting role?
I've heard varying feedback on both, but these guys were more into cycling/running

I've used an ambit while hunting. Doesn't really compare to a standard type gps, it works but it's not as user friendly and battery life is pretty bad while using the gps function.
That's with the first ambit too, and the latest one has less battery life as they have slimmed it down a lot
For the small cost of a s/h say Garmin60 with belt clip you're going to have something that does what it's designed to do. Track and tell you where you are in the bush. A wrist unit with a secondary GPS functionality is precisely that; secondary. Personally I prefer to have some confidence that the tools I use are capable of the task expected of them.
I have an ambit, it's good for fitness but not so good for tramping/hunting, except as a back up emergency item, battery life is no good, so you need to bring some sort of power bank with you (charges via usb only), and the screen is rather small, I like Suunto but would not rely on them versus a real GPS, heck even my iPhone is better (along with a power bank of course).
