Thread: Garmin GPS. north reference ?

What do others set there Garmin north reference too when working with a paper map, I understand the silva compass system with mag declination.
So what do others set their gps too,True north, magnetic north, user north. Seems True north or setting the magnetic declination to what is in your map legend is advised from google.

true north if you can (assuming its a map on a gps) manual compass and paper map = magnetic.

I have always used North UP and true motion, on any GPS Plotter or Radar I have ever used as I find it easier although it would seem among recreational users i am in the minority. Course up or head up does my head in with the map constantly re-drawing

Cheers for that mikee, i have had this gps for a few years map62s loaded with topo4gps card. i like to have it set at track up. In the past used silva compass and map that had the declination adjustment that could manually set and forget, while in the nzarmy. Mate also ex army just bought a 64st and we were refreshing our nav before a hunt.
