    Gear for 2 nights...

My gear for 2 nights in the Ruahines. Only thing missing is my binos and me.

    Pack is 55 litres.
Clothes are the ones I stand up in (light huntech old trou, poly vest, fleece top, socks, boots, cap), plus down vest, raincoat, light balaclava.
    Pillow case for meat bag.
Food is 3 instant porridge, one instant soup, one instant noodles, two OSM, one tube coffee, 4 rehydration tubes.
Gadgets are PLB, GPS, range finder, vid camera, still camera. Rifle suppressor. 2 torches, one small hand held and one small head lamp.
Orange belt thing (stays in pack), contains batteries, few sticking plasters, survival sheet, lighter, compass, little knife sharpener and few other trinkets.
Small gas stove, titanium little billy & top, titanium spoon, plastic cup. Small gas canister (half size, fits in billy)
400 grm sleeping bag. Shitty Katmandu sleeping mat.
    Shelter is 6x5 Siltarp fly.
Rifle is 5.5lb Savage .223. 12 rounds of ammo.

Heading off tonight, will walk in in the dark.

Yes to some dog food ( a few handfuls of quality dry stuff). I have an old film container with an oily rag in it for the rifle. If I had a stainless I wouldn’t even bother with that.
I try to keep everything to the minimum. Dog gets a good dog roll feed as I leave the truck, and as soon as we get back to the truck.

Pretty sure you can rent them, or borrow from a mate? PLB is SOP for my solo stuff as ordered by the other half.. @ebf you should have never told him about such rules! :p

If I hunted a lot on my own I would get one.

Will probably still get one eventually

I mostly hunt on my own, and am 65 so the PLB is an essential. I need the mat ‘cos its just a light fly without a ground sheet.

    Cheers

I used to think only pussies needed a mat and gave my mate hell for taking one hunting until I jumped on it to see how comfy it was. Sure beats using leafs like I used to

I wish I could survive for 2 days on only that amount of food!

And only 1 coffee? I think I'd die!

    Good luck

Stu#71 - I think you will find the coffee is in a tube (white tube with blue lid below the yellow cup in the photo). 'Nestle' make them. I use the sweetened condensed milk one for my cups of tea. Weighs 200 grms full. Purchase from any supermarket. I recall the coffee one is mixed with condensed milk...simply squeeze required amount into cup, add hot water and stir!
