What gloves are people running? Days are getting cold and I am after a pair that won’t cost the earth but will also won’t fall apart after one outing! Looking for recommendations

This sort of things is pretty good. Lots of variations from Mitre 10/Bunnings etc.

The ones in you link are pretty affordable

Similar, far more dexterous but not as weather proof or quite as hard wearing as the ones in shearer’s link.
Dexterity is important to me.

I have got ex ' US operation Deep freeze' mits as a reference. Tried all sorts of gloves. So far the best option price / durability etc are some ski gloves branded 'Zero'
Cheap tough, hands dont sweat like Freezer type gloves that need a cotton liner. I bought blue gloves so they dont get lost and even though they are supposed to be waterproof I coated them with the silicon + turps brew. Compared to the Artic Deep Freeze mits the ski gloves are nearly as good, good enough that you would never get in trouble with not being able to get hands warm

Perhaps a bit of a nostalgic hangover from the army days but the dexterity is really good, grips the rifle well, can feel the trigger and safety no probs. Wrists are a bit long, but I cut that down and run the sewing machine around it.

@Delphus, those pilots gloves look great. I would still get some waterproof ski gloves for warming up cold wet hands

Whatever you choose you want them to dry quickly after getting wet or they will chill you down. Leather would ring warning bells for me but can’t see the picture in the add.

Live in the Deep South and in the thick of the frosts at present
My mate and I both have down gloves/mittens and they are awesome and light.
Not sure about waterproof Ed’s but I have sprayed mine with some water repellent.
AliExpress have a range but make sure to get as large as you can. Failing that they are available in NZ just cost more
We have looked after ours and had no problems with durability

Are these dry back and front, or just the palm area? Thanks.

May as well throw these in the mix. Dry, some thermal protection, but not very warm and great dexterity. These would be my hunting gloves if it's wasn't for the Papa Smurf look!

Just the palms. Same sort of thing that you have just posted. There are lots of variations.
I don't bother with the uninsulated ones hunting as I only take these sorts of things if I expect it to be very cold (glassing for hours etc). Because they are thick you do loose dexterity but then you loose even more dexterity if you can't feel your fingers.

Thanks for the reply. The ones I posted are dry back and front, bloody good gloves apart from the colour.

which are pretty similar to the ones already posted. An alpine guide put me onto these and I rate them - great grip, reasonably warm, not too bulky, and cheap as chips so you can carry a spare pair
