    GPS, Garmin vs Magellan

Looking at buying a GPS, either Garmin 62s or Magellan explorist 710 if the Mrs can get them cheap enough. Just after anyone with experience with either with their pros and cons list, and which you would recommend and why.

I have the predecessor (model 60GSX) to the Garmin. Have had it for over a decade. Never missed a beat. Fantastic and extremely robust peice of technology.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

Got a 62s the other day, Been in the bush and great coverage no problems getting signal out. SAR use the 60GSX at work and they run sweet to. Topo maps on the 62S is great to, you can match up on the paper map sweet as.
I love the 62S as I went from an old etrex to this.

I have had both the 60csx and the 62s. Great wee units. Gave the 62s to brother-in-law as a little easier to use. I use the 60csx, though still prefer map and compass. Mostly just the map. Even my phone has the entire south island in topo50.

Garmin everytime. Robust and best of all Free GPS maps with NZGPS forum. Can do loads, incl turn it into a car GPS.
I have a touchscreen version Dakota 20. Load all the data, maps, waypoints via Basecamp or Mapsource SW.

I had the old Etrex and upgraded to the 60S, thinking that would be good. However, most times I go to use it in the Motu etc, I can't get a signal, 'cos I'm always scrambing around in some shitty gulley. Even when I get up high, the canopy seems to block the signal a lot of the time. Do I need to invest in a 62S??
