    and it was originally designed to lift the billy off the fire and then some dick sharpened it

    I always thought it was an Eskimo or first nations thing intended for skinning not gutting but eventually evolved to that. Seen things for sale in North America that just have the hook and no other blade.
    Surely only millenials would worry using a knife for the billy.... Plenty of sticks around one would think
