Thread: Handheld spotlight - what to get?

As per title, I'm looking at getting a handheld spotlight for bunny/hare shooting. Needs to easily light up the paddocks out to 100m. Ideally something that I can walk around a paddock with and run off a motorbike battery in a backpack or something.

What's the best option for these? Budget is probably around $100. I know nothing about spotlights

Have you considered one of the powerful focusable torches that you can get nowadays Josh? I have one that I mount on top of my scope with a simple rubberised mount and the advantage for me is that it is hands free and not nearly as cumbersome as my previous spot light.

Yep for 100y a torch will do that no worrys.

Sorry to hijack, but what are some examples of these focus-able torches? Would they be suitable for phalangers as well?

I have the earlier torch and it is bloody amazing!!
Haven't had the chance to even de-dome my 1 either. @gadgetman will know all the specs of them and the best places to get them from.

We used 30w sealed beam for Rabbits, Possum, Hares etc Ran off a 12v bike battery ,draw was around 1.5 a/h .The 14 a/h battery would give about 9hrs on a full charge .They seemed to hold well with the 30w & out past 100m no problem,nice condensed spot.
Probably get 1 from the local Auto electrician for $30 approx.Don't place them face down on the ute seat ,they get very hot .

I have the LED Lenser but write ups on this forum tend to favour the Maxtoch

I have a LED Lenser as well Rushy. Doesn't get used much at all now.
They used to be "the" torch to get, but they seem to have dropped the ball and are no way near close to the Maxtoch torches in comparison.

Cheers guys, I'm pretty sold on the M24S Sniper (once I got over the fact that it had "sniper" in the name ). They sounds like a damn good torch.

Just back from a night using them to hunt wallabies. Way outstripped the 12V plug in spotlights. Easy to see and shoot them out to 300m or more; generally run out of terrain before running out of light.

Definitely sounds like the way to go. I see from the other thread that you can de-dome these - when I get it do you reckon I could send it your way with some cash to get this done?

Whats a phalanger?
