Please check with your local arms officer for any local interpretation of the arms regulations that may vary from the national interpretation of gun storage requirements for A cat firearms.

I always wondered about the shipping aspect. I"ll be at work when they attempt to deliver - where's it going to be left / redirected to...?

dont see why that would need to be done, National interpretation should be the same as local?? Certainly if it is lockable then what is the issue??? A gun safe is a gun safe is it not, If someone came and told me what i had was not correct after having them for 20yrs i would be pretty upset, More so moving from one region to another to find one guy doesnt like the national interpretation!!

I know it happens but it shouldn't, and i would press the issue

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

Prob like couriers, they'll just leave it in the letterbox

The variation quote, sounds like they've been following the issue in Manawatu and a certain AO now not approving previously approved E Cat Sentry safes.

To be honest there isn't much difference between 2mm and 10mm with a lot of the tools out there at the moment.
There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!

Just spoke to my local AO about A Cat safes as I'm in the market, but on a budget. He said it has to meet a few basic requirements.

    1. it must be lockable.
    2. it can't be opened with hand tools... screwdriver, hammer, pry bar etc. so if a someone came across it they couldn't smash it open
    3. it cant be moved.

I asked about the steel ones, he said cheap ones are shit can can be opend with a hammer, and crow bar = fail
He also said that they frown upon the ones that have the second internal lockable compartment if you're using it to store your bolt = Fail

The reason being that they need to be stored separately and technically they 'could' just take the whole safe and have a working firearm. So bolt and ammo stored in a seperate lockable box somewhere else.

The I aksed about hand made lockable boxes, eg. a sturdy customwood/plywood locable box/cabinate. He said yep as long as it meets 1, 2 & 3 above, and bolt and ammo are seperate..... So this is my weekend project, should cost less than half a bought one and I can customise to what I need.

Lots of AOs have their own interpretation....

You don't have to store bolts separately....semis, lever action, pump action, break opens would be pretty difficult.....

It is "nice" to store them separately because then the firearm is useless, as it is when you forget your bolt on a hunting trip ....

Most shops I've been too have the bolts in their firearms on display these days

Pretty sure shops don't go for the cheapest option for security though in a safe with 2mm skin. Apples vs oranges there.
@chris-b consider investing as much as you can to protect your firearms. If you've spent real $$ buying the gear, skimping a couple of bucks for storage doesn't make any sense.

but most A Cat safes would be able to be opened with force so crock interpretation. Most burglars will have a key anyway (read crow, pinch bar) so sounds like we all need e cat safes
