Thread: How do you store/organize thin rope/string ?

I have some very thin string (1.5mm) that I use for a rudgeline on the fly sheet.

It is probably around 10m of it.

Every time I touch it, it ends up being a F#$%^ birdsnest

Any suffestions for storing it in a way that allows you to uncoil it without spending 10 minutes untangling ?

single plat it, ends up short then you just pull on it and it unwinds perfectly

Wrap it around something.

Use an empty fishing line spool.

Wind it onto a stick or peg like a builders line if you know a builder ask him to show you easy as.

A piece of dowel just like a builders string line

This is what I do. In the army I always had a bundle of hootchie cord in the pack. Never knew when you would need it
Criss cross around your thumb and pinky until the whole length is wrapped up. Pull the middle of the bunch where they cross over out and fold the remaining tail end around the whole thing (right). Tie that off to itself (half hitch works well). Keep a short piece from the start of the line poking out the front(shown as the lightening plug end). Will stay like that as long as you need it to. When you want line just pull that short piece and it will keep on coming unravelling as it goes. If you only use half the length you may need to retire the outside knot to keep the bundle short.

@CamFlatt, yup - tried that - it still ends up in a birdsnest.

I have 2 micro carabiners on the ends. One is fixed, and the other is on a prussic slider, so looks kinda similar to your usb cable, bith blons on both ends

Small stuff sack.... Just feed it in, will pull out tangle free. Google "throw bag" to get the concept.

Use bigger string, ie go to a light cord. you wont even notice the weight increase, but you will notice the the lack of frustration.

go daisy chain....you would probably be best to fold it into 4 before starting.....dead simple to do and keeps ropes n string in good order.....the daisy chain is out of favour with the likes of SAR &CD but old habits die hard,all my ropes are in tidy wee daisy chains.

Put it on a 5 dollar kids fishing reel or go thicker.
