    I seem to remember the Remington Mowhawk and BSA Majestic beign pretty popular "back in the day" because they were (relatively) light weight?

    Lightweight rifles have always been around .. . .1921 Mauser Kurz ready to go up the hill in 6.5 weights 3.3 kgs (7 lbs) scoped with a steel tube Kahles 2.3-7 .
