army surplus dpm trousers. Hard wearing but not the trendiest
yep, dpm. sure they absorb water but they dry quick and dont get too heavy when wet
Tops - Prana Stretch Zion pants, lasted over 5 years. Super breatheable and 4 way stretch. You can order to size as nothing at all "NZ Made" fits a short ass like me. Bush - Huntech/Swazi shorts and macpac leggings with HE gaiters.
the old adidas track suit pants were really great comfy dried quick after river crossings - now I wear swazi micro pants the only annoying thing is no pockets but they are great - would not recommend the swazi dri backs great in theory but in practice ya ass sweats and its like wearing a sheep of plastic round ya butt - be okay just around camp but not to walk in for any distance
KUIU Kutana Stretch Woven Pant or Stone Glaicer DE HAVILLAND LITE PANT both very comfortable. The Kuiu is more of an athlete fit whereas the SG is a wee bit more loss fitting.

Hard wearing comfy with a little bit of stretch, water resistant and not too hot.
Rugby shorts and ex army long Johns
I wear these all winter. Cheap as chips. Last OK.

I spend my working week in STONEY CREEK - MICRO TOUGH. Best hunting pants I've ever worn; strong clothe, warm but dry quickly, ordinary cuffs (ie no elastic in cuffs like track pants), thigh zippers for heat regulation (like ski pants), massive side pockets with zips which operate in reverse to a fly zipper ie down to seal, up to open, zip open for the old fella, button on waist band which also has velcro tightening and plenty of massive belt loops. Highly recommended.
The only thing missing is knee pad reinforcing for crawling in prone position.
Black shorts summer and winter and the months in between
shorts and thermals and if its really cold polarfleece pants, brand doesnt matter much and the warehouse ones actually pretty good, usually get too hot and they end up in daybag anyway by lunch time.
agree the old addidas trackies were the ducks nuts....havent found anything with fabric like them in years.
The old NZ army dpm, been used a lot since I got them 19yrs ago. They had a hard time in really tough heather for years too.
Ive always been a thermal and stubbies guy but recently got some Hunter Element Legacy trousers and LOVE them, super comfortable, stretchy and warm without being too hot. Highly recommend
Canterbury rugger shorts and hunters element leggings are my go to and have kept me comfortable in sun rain and snow for as long as I can remember. I particularly like the freedom of movement they offer along with the fact that the leggings dry out pretty quick. I have just got a pair of HE Macaulay pants to add to my pack so that if it got REALLY cold I'd have an answer, having said that for me if my core temp is good the rest of me seems happiest not smothered in thick layers
Kuiu Kutana exspensive but really good ,have Attack pants as well as Stoney Creek
Live in the Kutana hands down
Plenty of pants on sale currently.....

Mid length shorts,
but have been using a pair of First Light Corrugate Guide Pants. Light issh 480 gr, 4 way stretch, very comfortable to walk in, Don't want to say a snug fit but they are not a loose or baggy cut so they don't tend to catch when you are walking through scrub.
DWR coated but now they are a few years old I would not call them waterproof, Carry an over trousers for that.
They are pilling from the knee down but I don't very often wear Gaters unless I expecting a lot of water, or mud, or sandy gravel.

Warehouse Backcountry shorts for me. Might be different if I hunted throiugh matagouri or blackberry! But my advice has to be taken with a grain of salt because I've only worn long pants once (to a funeral) in 3 years ;) I actually wore shoes that day too; usually it's either jandals, redbands or hunting boots... ;)
I’m a big fan of the Montane terra stretch pants. Nice and light, stretchy and don’t need gaiters.
Pants?
Kuiu Attack and Prana Zion stretch for longs but like the look of the Montane pants also.

Kauri Trail Hunua hiking pants from Farmers :D Stretch, articulated knee, plenty of pockets but a bit noisy when new, couple of washes later they soften up. They dry fast and last for years. For winter I have some early Stoney Creek that are ok. Used to be shorts & long johns & a swanny but that was a while ago ;)
Rab incline pants. Not cheap but lightweight and breath really well. I wear them for summer tops trips thru to winter tahr trips and find them good for everything. I used shorts and long John's up to a year or go but find the long pants miles better.
I mostly wear shorts, but when it’s a bit colder I really rate the commando pants from warfighter athletic. Warm, light water resistant. When they do get wet they dry super quickly.
