    Identify that Knife Sharpener

There are a lot of knife sharpening systems out there. Here is a compilation of most of them that have been mentioned on here over the past eight years - to help make them easier to identify by name and their method of operation. Most manufacturers will make several models, so the ones shown are intended to be *representative* of the style of sharpener only.

Best depends on your definition. Having tried the Lansky, Warthog and whetstones, I think the Warthog system is the best combination of ease of use and cost. There is a recent thread about them.

I'll be selling my whetstone if anyone is interested.

No base or blade-angle-keeper as I found them both useless and they went in the bin. Still have the levelling stone. $100 posted.

I hope ya not Puffing too much after putting all that up Puffin
Cheers, very handy to see them all next to each other. I usually use a stone, but am thinking about getting a "system" for work, so the rocket scientists I work with at least don't make the knives worse.

the lanksi ceramic rods are sort of like the warthog in that as its shown there is eggzachary how you use them. hold knife vertically correct and draw blade through to keep correct angle..but it LOOKS more like the sharp maker..to taylor made cigarette sized rods poking out of small sanding block sized block of wood, that has holes drilled to correct angles to fit rods into and nifty holes in end with end cap for storage.
cant take photo of it as my daughter has it on loan.

Just ordered these in 6k and 8k to sharpen fine scissors for dressmaking [ my partner who has 3 expensive Juki machines] and trout tying.

I use the warthog for tickle ups and several stones for rough out get back into shape work. My lansky has sat in the drawer for about 20 years.

    You all missed the Russian's
TSPROF. Still available ex Eu or US. But crap the price has jumped since I got mine. Looked at the scary sharp as well but price was an issue as well. The Tsprof is a work of art as well on the bench.
This is the mid range model.

    picture size overload

That was the last sharpener pictured in the collection, Tech Studio Profile. Was due for updated images representative of the current model however, so all good.

My nephew uses Japanese water stones and they get stuff scary sharp. They're also expensive so I just use whatever stones I pick up from here and there - then I strop them on a leather belt backed onto a 'belt width' board until they're scary sharp. I don't like a little stone, I like them 8 or 10 inches long and I hold them in the bench vice when I'm sharpening the blade.
I take two knives in the bush and the only time I take a sharpening system (slip stone) was when I was possuming, I used a pair of vegetarian or tomato knives for that - and I still have one from over fifty years ago, it was my dad's and I still use it, but there's hardly any blade to it now.

I've never seen those flash ones - not even in a shop.
