Looks cool but it would be hard to read a map on such a small screen.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

The Mini is pretty much solely intended for txt messaging i think. The larger inReach would be more suitable for using as a normal GPS.

I like the idea of the Mini solely as a message system when you dont have cell signal, great for extended trips in place of a Sat Phone, you can link your cell phone to the Inreach mini and create the messages on the phone but they get transmitted via the inreach.

Due to limited Battery life of the Mini, i think its still prudent to carry a proper PLB tho.

I haven't had a look at the link, but as the owner of an InReach SE I can say that the map experience on a bigger screen isn't that good either. Maybe it's improved on the latest Garmin models, but my preference is to use my phone for mapping as the screen is much better (and bigger) and also link to the InReach and use the phone to type messages etc. So if the Mini is more compact and cheaper, then it could be a really good option, depending on the battery life hit compared to the bigger models. I generally take a powerbank with me so this is a moot point anyway

If it's not a first round hit you need to practice more

Just using one with the App on your phone will be fine. As long as it charges from USB, then it can be recharged by solar or power pack

I use an in reach explorer +. Great kit but only use it via my phone. So this looks like a better option. As I also carry a Garmin rino this could reduce the size and weight .

Other party had an inreach on trip last month
Messaging was awesome, weather was limited , mtn radio was great with the forecasts .

Good bit of kit, maybe just get someone back home to text in the weather each night

Went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day but I couldn't find any.

If you get the premium weather for the price of a few messages I found it wasn't too bad. But like all forcasts can't be specific to your exact valley/hill etc. But if your using it you could get someone to send the weather via a text. A lot smaller lighter and easier to use than the mountain radio.
