    Inreach SE

Gday team, does anyone here use one of these? My SPOT messenger contract is about due for renewal for another year and I have been considering getting an Inreach SE instead of renewing.
I like the idea of being able to send/recieve messages, the SPOT has been good but it only sends a preset message that you have to set up before you head out. Being able to recieve messages seems great as could get the mrs to check the weather etc and not have to worry about a mountain radio for shorter trips, also be good being able to communicate directly with chopper operators etc.
Just interested to hear any personal experiences/opinions on the units.

They are okay, great when they work but they are having issues at the moment with the software and delivery systems due to gamin buying the company. Hope it gets sorted soon.

Mine was up for renewal, got an plb instead. With a 10yr battery they work out a lot cheaper than the spot subscription. Now I end up humping both bloody things around. I believe sat phones are coming down in price if you get a plan based on mainly texts, lot of the fishermen on the island have them now

I can get a plb easy enough but I like the SPOT device as I can message (preset messages) others to let them know im safe at camp for the night, or going to be late, or in the shit (havnt used that one, yet) Quite often I do fly in trips when my other half isnt even in the country so its peace of mind for her if she gets a message at the end of each day too.
