Just remember - none of the technical jackets are really designed for bush bashing.
Anything that wicks/breathes will also pull - just that ones with the tricot outer won't show it the same.
I went from a Ridgeline Monsoon to a HE XTR - lighter was the main reason.
However, looking at something like the HE Rugged Bush Coat for Bashing work - will keep the XTR for the open areas or when it really starts to piss down - also have the option of the poncho for when the downpours really set in...

I challenge any jacket made to keep you dry in NZ when its pissing down, better off to be warm with spare clothes
I use an early 90s midweight short Driza-bone. Keeps me dry for a good 20 minutes and will hold more water than you could ever imagine. It gets really heavy too which is great when you've got 50kgs on venison on your back too. But fuck it looks cool.
Kidding - although I did once upon a time I now have a Swazi Tahr anorak.
I don't know about you guys, but I can't stand Macpacs "Event", its all a hoax. If you're in a market for a jacket of that style buy Gortex and you can't go wrong, its far more effective at its job than "Event". If you're going to spend the money you're better putting it into a Gortex jacket.
Are you talking about a particular jacket?
The eVent stuff I have used has been great.

Ive had my tarn jacket out quite a few times now and its awesome, glad i went medium as the sizing is quite big.
Its a bit noisy when pushy through dry trees (well it sounds noisy to me, probably cant even hear it if you stepped a few metres away)
Has a decent tail for sitting on
Its built tough and i like the colour
Iv tried a few things over the years but at my stage in life I find the best thing for Keeping the rain off is a roof.

Haavnt seen " be hard": on my to do list for years. In context that is, before @R93 drags it into the gutter.
