    Is this a Kelly axe

While cleaning out an old farm shed a lump of rusty steel with a splinter of hickory appeared out of the dirt and rubbish. It almost went into the rubbish pile. The voice in my head said take it home, when cleaned up it may be worth sticking a handle on it.

Yeah, somewhere on it will be the Kelly in an oval and "made in XXXXX". Looks like a Boy's axe size head, it's not a full size axe and looks bigger than a hatchet? Nice though, looks like it's done some work and had a few sharpens but hasn't been abused with the poll split or mushroomed.

Yeah not 100% sure if it's a Kelly. It's a great axe but having two Kelly's here as well as one marked the same as OPs ...it might be a Kelly but not branded as such.weirdly my one same as yours has been filed/ ground really hard giving it quite steep cutting edge about 20 mm to the shoulder,it splits much better than I thought it would. Nothing quite like a good quality axe that is sharp to make splitting a good job to do.

found a photo on internet -the marking on right side same as the Kelly pictured on the net - they do seem to vary a bit the way they are stamped - shape was spot on

Its neat to see people putting a value on them - I collected old axe heads for a no of years - most have now gone to good homes - they are actually hard to get
