    Knife sharpening

I have just brought a lansky deluxe sharpening kit, i have couple svords i use for hunting knifes, which have convex edges, so will this kit still sharpen these or bugger them? do i need to get some rounded stones? Cheers.

Sharpen with Sandpaper and a mouse pad, or just establish a flat secondary bevel and go cut stuff. Personally I feel convexed bevel juice isn't worth the squeeze. Only makes sense on bushcraft or kitchen knives

The lansky will work, it’s sloppy so it can be made to convex the edges, there are mouse pad options if you YouTube, alternatively if you want them done well, I can do them for you, if the blade is under 100 mm I charge 5, over 100 mm I charge 7.50, I can do a polished edge on a 7.2 degree convex, taken to 4000 grit that will split hairs, of if you are using them on hide I can make them have some tooth, your call.

I have a lansky they will do a good job of sharpening your knives.
The others sharpeners may be better but I am happy with mine.
Use it you will be pleased with the result.

    How do you mean sloppy.

Its a sword knife not a $1000 knife. The lanky set will do just fine

If you have a look at a lansky you will see that the holes the guide rods go through are quite large, and it’s easy for the guide rods to slip around in them, there is play, a bit like trying to shoot a 243 through a 308, it may go bang but it ain’t going to go straight.

I occassionally make knives and thought the Lansky would work well.. Not for me. I went back to using a 2 grit stone, a steel and green polishing compoubd on a strop.
I use a lansky field sharpener on a cheap knife just to touch up an edge but a good sharpening stone gives you more control over the angle of your edge imho

I use course then fine oilstone. 15% each side. I favour mercator for most field work.

if your not happy with the convex curve just get a belt sander with 80grit and turn it upside done in a vice to give yo a flat grind. then use your lanskey just remember the angle you sharpened at because that is the angle to steel at. failing that the guy who offered to sharpen it for you has good prices and will probably show you the steeling angle
