    Knife Sheath Modification

Hi all. I find it a bit annoying how the sheaths that come with knife from Victory, Knifekut, svord and the likes, are so long and deep only around an inch of the handle is protruding which makes it awkward to grab in a harry, even with a lanyard. Has anyone modified these sheaths so more, at least half of the handle is sticking out?

dont do it trust me just have enough handle showing to get a hold on - dont cut the sheath back - over time the sheath will loosen and you could loose knife

if you really want to try it different..stuff something inside sheath so knife doesnt go as deep...but you will loose knife.
or just buy different type of sheath.

A deep seated knife with lanyard is far better than a knife that sticks out and can be lvevered out by the bush.My sons Swibo which has done 100's of deer is well into his sheath. It is a straight pig hunters model. No drama to extract ot from the sheath. Deep in the Gisborne bush our mate turns to get his knife and voila. Gone. Need it poking out he said. Well how are you going to deal to these 2 stags. Lets say there were no deer in the adjoining area because of the swearing.

Ok I won't cut it back. What I might look at is heat the sheath a bit, push the knife in far enough so I can still get a good grip on the handle then press it between two blocks of foam to mold the sheath around the handle like what some do when make diy kydex sheaths. Or, I make my own sheaths?

It's not as if you will be competing in a quick draw competition - having the knife still there when you want to use it is probably more important than being able to whip it out in less than a second...

I don't remove my hunting knife from it's sheath often enough for it to be an issue

I found this little gem of a sheath at a emporium in Whangarei for $10. after wet foaming and waxing with a 50/50 mix of bees and paraffin wax the knife fits nice and snug. I wanted to seal the inside with wax but wasn't sure how to get the wax inside without making a mess of it.
