It depends on what conditions you are needing it for. Just this weekend I lived in the Ultra merino 210 ZIP-T in the Kaimanawa tops, I was warm. Had this as my only layer even in exposed areas.

It if was me; 145g/m² fabric weight for summer, 210g/m² fabric weight for winter. (that's if you're buying Kuiu)

I personally buy the tops that have a zip, that way if I get too hot I just zip it down and it breaths well.
