Thread: Kuiu sleeping bag

My tolerance for the cold is sweet FA. I'm also skinny which doesn't help.On a resent trip (in tent at 3000ft)I froze my tits off and at 2am and -2 deg on the last night of the trip I decided it was time to up grade. I currently use a neoair (first model to come out) . My sleeping bag is a One Planet Cocoon-5 . I was also wearing a kuiu down jacket , thermals under armour 2.0 and socks and I was still cold. The Neoair, one planet sleeping bag and puffer jacket all up weigh 1.8kg which is gold for my pack but good for bugger all if I'm still getting cold.

If anyone has had any first hand experience with Kuiu sleeping bags in the cold I be keen to hear their thoughts. Some sleeping bags don't breath particularly well and tend to feel a bit clammy . Are Kuiu sleeping bags like this? I'm open to all suggestions.

In regards to Kuiu bags, I think you would be able to get something that'll outperform the bag for less money. Haven't heard much about them. I highly rate Sea to Summit bags.

Do you have enough room in your bag for you and all that gear if there isnt space for the air your trying to trap then it wont work.

I have the neo air xthurm pad and its like an electric blanket.

I'm not familiar with either your current bag or the Kuiu so can't help there. You didn't mention if you were wearing anything on your head. A good beanie does wonders. If you feel the cold then I'd look towards a hooded bag and a down pillow.
Try and get warm before you hop into bag, remember that all a good bag does it hold your generated body heat, not create it. Thermarest make some truely awesome bags that attach to your neoair and create a very efficient sleeping system.

Yep. Had a fleece hat on. The bag in my opinion is a summer weight one. A liner might make all the difference. I'm happy to carry another 500g . It's just weighing up the best option . Winter weight bag or liner of some sort? If I got that cold at -2 is a liner really going to be enough on a Tahr hunt or a Wap trip if there is a dirty cold southerly come through with snow in it? Plenty to think about . Cheers

I've got a light weight summer one that I use as a liner, have had the silk ones in the past but keep ripping them. Did have a macpac latitude and was happy wih it till the zip bust! Now back to an old fairydown
