    Light weight tents

What is everyone running these days in terms of light weight tents for tops hunting?

Finally time to move on from the huntec bivvy and into something that is sandfly proof.

    Cheers

Really like my new kuiu mountain star if 1.6kg is light enough for you. I've gone to this after a huntech bivy and will not be going back.

The only downside is the footprint which is quite big so could make finding a spot to pitch it a challenge.

Wow those xmid look great. And crazy light - xmid pro 2+ is 630g total setup.
Wish they had a three person, that way if but it for my son and use it myself

Finding one in stock seems to be the issue though

I seem to always go back to a simple fly. Paired with walking poles it is extremely versatile. There is usually a rock or a gut to span it over. I like the simplicity of it.

Have a MSR free lite 2 person tent. Good bit of kit at just over a kilo.

I have been using a Macpac Micro-lite for a few years now for a single person, enough space for yourself, but no one else. Two main reasons why I rate it, first, the tub is heavy duty, so no need for a "Footprint", second, it can handle WIND, point the Keel into the wind and it can handle it. I was at a height of 1500 metres one time and had everything thrown at me, you could hear the wind gusts coming up the hill, and then they would hit! On the Second day, I thought it was time to leave. The tent is suppose to be a three season tent, but it stood up well. Packed down if I recall correctly it weighs 1.3kg, I don't use their pegs, I use those cheap plastic ones because they have more surface area and better grip, plus they weigh about the same.

Used my Durston X-Mid Solid 2 in the weekend the only problem is they are designed to sleep top and tail so if the site is sloping one person has his head down hill.
We had to both sleep same way in the weekend which wasn't ideal.
Easy to put up though with outer attached to inner 4 pegs then 2 poles job done.

Camping Caravan and Marine often have good deals on MSR tents - although with the nz$ to usd @ 56 cents us made gear looks bloody expensive atm.

Micolights are 4 season, I also have one and its been a lifesaver over the years in some truely horrible weather!
The only issue is the inner sags a bit which is annoying, otherwise perfect 1 man tent i reckon.
