What's everyone using and why? I'm looking at the msr hubba hubba or freelite/carbon lite etc looking to replace my exped with something lighter.

I just bought a MSR Hubba NX (one person) its got 10 times more room than my old single man "freedom mono" tent (exaggerating but you get the gist)
the fabric feels thin to be honest, so you don't want to thrash it but overall the design feels sturdy. I tossed up between the Carbon and the Hubba (only about $100 in it in the 1 man size) but decided to go slightly heavier and a bit stronger (imo) with the Hubba.
Only came with like 9 stakes but should really have come with a few more for the tie downs on the fly, but whatever.
wait for the new msr access 2 4 season to come out

If you want light you get much lighter (or stronger) than a Z-packs duplex Ultralight Two Person Tent | Zpacks | Lightest 2 Person Tent What it lacks in weight it makes up for in price though. Although you can buy the fly separately.
Kuiu 2P mountain star is a pretty cool tent. Its better designed than the MSR imo. Exactly the same size
@Timmay what gave the impression of the hubba being stronger than the carbon? Was it a different material or pole setup?
yep have had one for over a year now, has done one fiordland duty plus many other trips, will be using in fiordland next month/April also
You have to look real close, but the Carbon has ligher polls yes, but it also has a lower inner fly - check the pics and you will see what i mean - So it will be colder plus more prone to let in water in with hard rain, if you compare the stats on the fabric, the Huba has a higher rating (thickness/wearing)

I've been using a MSR Carbon Reflex 2 for over a year now. Can't really fault it. Plenty of room for two guys that are prepared to cuddle. Has handled some pretty harsh weather but it hasn't really been out in any real gale force winds.
I've got the Hubba Hubba and mainly use it as a single person tent as I like to have room for my gear inside. Easy to split the tent up & share the weight if 2 peeps using it. I've got the footprint as well for extra floor protection or using with just the poles & fly. Great tent.
Yeah I'm tossing up between the carbon and hubba...
I just went through the same research recently. I have always used a MSR Carbon Reflex 1 tent. But soon I'll want one of my boys to come on hunting trips with me so I needed a 2 man tent and sold the MSR. I was looking at the MSR Freelite but I went with a Big Agnes Fly Creek tent.

I have used it in the kaimanawas so far and think its bloody awesome. I think its even lighter and packs down smaller than the MSR, and this is a 2 man tent! It seems well made and has some great features. I thought the built in lighting was just a gimmick, but gave it a go anyway. But now I'm sold. Not having to fumble around at night to find a torch is bloody good. Just reach over and turn on the lights! And the system only adds another 40gms or something like that.
