Just wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a lighter weight boot with decent enough ankle support for carrying a heavy pack.
I’ve been using the Salewa Rapace and absolutely love the fit and stability for such a light boot but I’m looking at trying something different this time as unfortunately the sole hasn’t lasted as it should and the Gore-Tex lining gave out after about a year. If it wasn’t for these issues they’d be my perfect boot.
What about their mountain trainer. I haven't used them as I use the rapace but I believe others on here have.
I had a really good run out of LA Sportiva Trango Trk Gtx, into my second pair now but there was a post on here a wee while back about the new version not lasting the same as the older version. I was going to try the Aequilibriums but they didn't feel right for some reason, there's something fundamentally different about how they fit that I can't put my finger on, my sister got the woman's version and she had a snapped archilles years ago and she said they absolutely kill the back of her heels where her injury was. Running some Lowa Rangers at the moment so I'll still get a while from the Sportivas but not sure what I'd look at next for that lighter weight option, possibly Salewa Crow

I have been running crispi summits for 3 years ..super light super comfy. Really good support for such a light boot. Was told I might get a trip in fiordiland out of them and they be done but I got 2 fiordiland trips and several others and going to wear them into molesworth for 2nd time next week can't rate them enough. Only thing I'm noticing with them though is because I have one bad knee with really bad osteoarthritis I feel they may be lacking in dampening every stone or rock that moves under foot I feel it in my knee now . Might try some different inner soles and see if that helps . Great boots

I did buy a new insole to put in them to soften the heel up a touch. Otherwise they are fantastic, pretty light, very supportive and great grip.

I've been using Crispi Dakotas, kind of a hybrid boot...... I find them lightweight and super comfortable with great support.
I got them after giving up on my Andrew Antelaos that were hardy as but just way too heavy.
Cool that's good to know.will do the same. I agree best boots. I've had 3 pairs of scarpas and all kinds of other boots and these crispis just are great bootsQuote:

From memory they were Grisport Innersoles, grabbed them from Hunting & Fishing. Was a perfect fit for the Crispi boot.
I believe both brands are actually owned by the same business.

Although light boots and heavy packs don't really go in the same sentence these are a good compromise
