I'd really appreciate any recommendations for a lightweight but durable waterproof jacket.
Ideally looking for under 500g, but I don't want to trade too much durability. Something waterproof and breathable.

I just invested in a Hunters Element Halo and work recently supplied us Stony Creek Stowits. Both are very lightweight and very similar in design.
Have not had chance to use either yet but will today.
Have to agree. I have owned quite a bit of Stoney Creek gear over the years and most (no all) of it has required repairing at some time. Mostly stitching issues. I have a Stowit jacket that I have had for quite a few years and it is still in good nick but I only ever use it as an "just in case" type garment. Doesn't often get used.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.
Hi
I got one of these, ex British army, light and waterproof, and bombproof. The taped seams have all stayed taped, not like the modern versions floating around that seem to have their tape seals fail quite easily. It rolls up into the hood and takes up little room in the daypack. I would recommend getting the long version to have more leg coverage, I can't recommend them more highly and I bush hunt the Ruahine and Kawekas. https://www.armyandoutdoors.co.nz/co...pm-jacket-used
Swazi Tahr Ultralite. Waterproof , Light and keeps the wind out.
Wow. Thanks everyone for your input. Some great suggestions and commentary here. I really appreciate it.
I certainly welcome more recommendations and input if anyone has them.
The British army jacket is great but a bit bulky and noisy. The German army jacket folds down much smaller and is slightly less waterproof. I usually take the German army jacket.
For the price I paid for the Halo if it gives 2 years I'll be happy and financially better off than if I bought a big ticket jacket.
The Stowits are supplied by work so no bones if it leaks I'll just ask for a new one.
I did consider the ex army ones but didn't want a camo rain coat
Swazi himmmmm did they not through use under a bus?
It's all fun and games till Darthvader comes along
I respect your beliefs but don't impose them on me.
I've got the Hunters Element Odyssey and have been super impressed , has lasted bloody well (I do look after my shit though) and have stayed dry each and every time that I have used it. It isn't the smallest jacket out by meh
