I bought one last winter and ended up taking it back because it wasn't as warm as the shop girl reckoned or the old light down jacket it was to replace. I learnt that loft is everything. Ended up buying a very good lightweight second hand jacket.

Won't be buying anything for a while wife has just lost her job due the the lockdown and no tourists so the local iSite which is owned by the pools is downsizing on staff

What is the story when it picks up again.
Are they giving the likes of your wife first dibs.
Just needs internal tourism to kick in.
We travel south every year by bike or Landcruiser and always make Hanmer a stop.

Who knows the pools are not opening until Level1 they are seriously downsizing all staff and the Heritage hotel has closed as has the old post office bar and restaurant, the Thai restaurant too and the bookshop as wells the cafe and attached veg shop. With no visitors things are grim.

At this point we have enough building work to last the year out.

And when you consider Macpac are anti hunting, where to buy is a no brainer.
I’ve got the hooded jacket with waterproof shell, European goose down, Japanese fabric, quality gear.

    All the best.
I am picking NZ and Aus are going to open border fairly quickly and with internal travel and Aussies things will improve.
Aussies and kiwis are great travellers but will opt for safe countries first and where they are allowed to go.
