Hi everyone,
Im looking at buying the Macpac Epic Hyperdry 800 XL. Or maybe the Latitude XP Goosedown 700 XL.
Macpac are currently having a 30% off flash sale - unsure if this is actually pretty good discount for Macpac or if they get better occasionally.
Kathmandu just had (maybe still do) a 40% off sale and just wanting to know if Macpac tend to do the same.
Also looking at a Olympus Alpine tent, which is also 30% currently..

Macpac pretty regularly go 40% off across the board, or sometimes just rotate it through categories. So if you wait a while, it’s very likely there will be a 40% discount at some point in the not-too-distant future. They don’t usually go above a 40% discount, except for clearance and some of their specific clothing lines.
That Epic Hyper Dry is a nice bag with a Pertex Quantum shell - and 800 grams of 800 fill power goose down.
Are you a cold sleeper or thinking of heading into really cold conditions ?
I've got two good RAB Quantum Endurance sleeping bags with 400 and 600 grams of 800 FP goose down and the 600 is very warm in the coldest NZ conditions I've encountered -8C overnight - but sleeping in a 4 season alpine tent.
The MACPAC bags also come in different fill weights - grams.

@ KiwiinSeattle; normally no - Im a warm sleeper anyway, however new to hunting and outdoors adventure in general, but I really want to get up into the snow, i figure with a bag I can unzip until im more comfortable if its too warm, but worst case its probably the thing to keep you alive the longest should things really take a turn for the worst. Id be lying if the 800/840 wasnt somewhat concerning though - from a cost, and weight perspective it might be wise to consider a lower (700ish) level bag like the Lattitude XP I mentioned...
That MACPAC Latitude XP has a very good Pertex Shield shell which is near to waterproof so you could sleep outside without a bivvy bag on a cold dry night. The weights of those bags is similar but if you can get into a MACPAC shop you might want to see how they pack down with respect to compressed size.
in Timaru...macpac and kathmando are a couple of doors apart...when one has 40% sale the other follows suit of gets no business till its over....makes for cheaper buying that is forsure.
Have a look at the One Planet Bungle bags from Dwights. Just got the -10 version for $490 and its a mint bit of kit. Bang on 1kg, hydrophobic 850 loft down, full zip, good compression sack and heaps of footroom. Exterior fabric is pretty lightweight but still feels solid. They’ve got a -15 version too for a bit more but it’s still only around 1150g.
Have had Latitude XP for a few years now, it's the only bit of gear I have that's remained constant. Kept me warm in the Tahr blocks and way up high etc. Don't see the need for anything heavierQuote:
