    Maps for Garmin 66i

I'm looking at buying map software for my Garmin 66i GPS, I see theres a few different options available, is it worth spending the $230 on the full Garmin version or is the $99 Topo4 just as good?

Why not just get NZTopo offline maps on your phone for a fraction of the cost?

    This might be an option.

Because then the way points don't save off the GPS... I go through phones like no tomorrow, GPS's seem to last a bit longer lol

Cheers KiwiinSeattle! That's the $99 option I'd found, works out heaps cheaper this way, and works with basemap so probably a good option!

Hi there Have a look online for instructions on how to download custom maps. You only download the topographical sheet for your hunting area and save it to the 66i. I have four maps saved and it covers the areas I hunt and work in. Saves not having to buy another card and not buying maps you will probably never use. Works very well and the instructions were easy to follow. Cheers Ruger7mm

I'd download them for free off topomap.co.nz and see how you go with those first. I just use those and don't see any reason to pay for anything else. Between that and the free aerial imagery that comes with the GPS I'm not sure what more you could want.

I think Iposted how to get the free maps going on here a while ago but any hassles getting the maps going, feel free to flick me a message.

    Thanks for that recommendation @KiwiinSeattle
Im looking for one I can use on the laptop too.

    Questions:
    1. It looks as if the contours are a light grey so the picture is only equivLent to LINZ topo 50 maps, not identical like the Topo50 on your phone or Maptoaster ?
    2. Do you know how it goes on a garmin watch like fenix 7 ?
    3. Does it displaylocation in standard NZ coordinates ?

I use NZtopo 50 on my fine and transfer the waypoints to Memory map on my laptop by just saving the .GPX files into Google drive, easy as to do.
    Happy Jack.

I have this for my Garmin 66i. Perfect for hunting, has clearly defined DOC boundaries, huts and tracks updated. Money well spent.
