Want one if these once I get some bills sorted.
Think reloaders supplies have them
Anything closer to or in Christchurch?
Be nice to confirm if it's a proper one and maybe save on postage. More the postage lol

If it's even close to the original British Army version, save your money for something else.
The original one seemed to have been designed by a person who had only been described the experience of chopping something.
"Sixty percent of the time,it works every time"
Fair enough lol
Next door neighbor in oz had one and I just liked it.
I got a martindale 18" with the upswept tip for years when I was a teen. Tip cut off and sharpened a lot better.
Liked that one
Reckon next door neighbours to my mum pinched it when I was in oz but found them at Farmlands and got another one.
The golok is shorter and a bit more choppy as it has more weight which is why I liked it.
What would you recommend instead?
They are relatively cheap which is a plus
got golok 28 yrs ago when poisoning , shortined by 4ins and made a drop in sheaf for speed and was great on supple jack only mistake was rounding handle edges off so is harder to hold now with old hands so rapped in para cord and a lanyard {should still be good for zombies if needed]
@m101a1 funny that. They apparently made a slightly shorter paratrooper model.
I liked it as it had more weight and was a lot shorter than the old one. Did a lot of cutting with that but it is a good sized machete
I have one, got it from reloader S, was cheap as chips, it’s genuine, no sheath though.
German beech handle and milled british steel...the handle come sharper than the blade, needs a very good going over with sandpaper and some linseed oil after, it will swell in winter and shrink in summer, not enough to split but enough to make it slightly uncomfortable, keep sandpaper and a file handy.
Blade $ it’s as blunt as batshit, come like some has tried to sharpen it by bashing two rocks to getter to form the bevel, needs some major work to get a good edge on it, need to work away the shoulder to get a better angle, the good news is that the steel is soft so it’s easy to do,once sta listed it takes an ok edge, I mostly sharpen it with 120 grit sandpaper on a block of wood.
It’s a good chopper though, short stout and can chop thick wood, goes blunt quickly though.
I like to use it when chopping stuff close to the ground as I do not care it it hits a stone, which will dent the edge, just sandpaper it out and keep going, also it will rust in a heartbeat, either keep it oiled or let the stains keep real rust at bay.
Svord makes a really good one, way better that the original with a very functional sheath, but it’s not cheap.
I made a sheath for the 18" out of fire hose, back when I got the first one and again for the new one.
Sanded the hot spots out of the handle and give it a bit of an oil. Sharpened the blade up initially with a flapper wheel on the grinder to get the naff blunt edge back then sorted with a file and some sandpaper, but do have a file that live in the sheath (just as I did with the first one) for touch ups. The same steel I suppose.
Think I've read your review of them.
Cheap is good, ill have to have a shit ton of money before I start buying 200 dollar machetes.
Dont suppose you know where to get the sheaths from?
Anyone else other than reloaders?
Yeah there is a place called machete specialists, sell a sheath for the martindale golok for about $11 us, cheaper than making one, don’t know about shipping etc but have a google.
What is the name given to goloks of the Vietnam era used by American and Kiwi troops, the one I have has the small carborundum stone in a pouch...some time ago my brother found a bin of pouches (a bit later model) in a army surplus store in Wellington
