    Meat Bandsaw

    Anyone got any recommendation's for a benchtop size meat bandsaw? Needs to be easy clean and capable of cutting frozen deer shanks into 3/4" slices.
    My shoulders are not liking my hand saw any more.

    For frozen stuff I do exactly what Muzza does.
    Only weird thing is I found one of my dogs on the work bench, licking the bandsaw blade afterwards

    I was thinking exactly the same thing when hacksawing my way through a goat leg at midnight last night!

    I use a Dewalt recip saw for cutting up lambs...works well but a sabre saw would be less 'brutal' and easier for small cuts when making the chops.

    Ice blades are designed to cut ice (and other frozen material) and made from stainless steel

    I've watched a few people cutting frozen meat with the reciprocating saw on youtube, and I am not convinced that I would want to spend the money on one given the results (I don't own one and have never used one). The seem to spend a lot on time chewing up the met but not cutting through.

    I have about 20 shanks in the freezer to cut up.

    Home kill operators using reciprocating saws n ice blades now. Can't afford meat bandsaw or have room for it so reciprocating saw gets used. Way quicker

    Ask a butcher if he'll cut the shanks up for you.

    I've found it a bit tricky trying to get a straight cut with the recipro saw which doesn't matter if its me and the dog eating it but if you want to give some chops to someone they might look a bit wonky.

    Bandsaws are like scopes the cheap ones will work but play up if your going to invest you'd be looking around 1500-3000 for a half decent one, best option would be use your homekill butcher probably cost 10-20 bucks that's 100 visits before you'd warrant the purchase

    I saw this advice at the bottom of the page:

    "Handy Hints!
    Cleaning a meat band saw is not an easy job, especially when you cannot let water near any of the electrical components! At one of the previous Fielday's, a farmer who had purchased this saw the year before passed on this handy advice - Put a couple of sheets of scrunched up newspaper in the trap door under the cutting table. This will collect a lot of the fat content out of what you are cutting and make it much easier to dispose of!
    ..
    Another great hint is to freeze the meat before cutting it up - not only does it give you a cleaner and easier cut, but it also helps to avoid getting bone chips through the meat!"

    I have resisted using my wood bandsaw coz of the clean-up hassle. Must try the recipro saw next time. Built up the usual lather last week when I was hacking some shanks off and chopping down the backbone.

    Actually cooked two shanks yesterday and man they came out mint. Braised off the shanks and some onion about 10am, set them running in the slow cooker with some carrots, chicken stock cube, half cup of shiraz,tomato puree mix plus S&P. Added some thickening just before the end. Soooo tender and tasty
