    Mountain star tent

30% off tents at kuiu for next two days.

Couple of questions before i press buy now, carbon poles worth the upgrade and is the internal size suitable for a big boofy 6'2" and one or two dogs..

    Cheers FBF

I've got one, am 6ft. Love it its a great tent.

One thing to mention with respect to dogs is that most of the inner is made of mesh so might not be the most robust??

Never bothered with the carbon poles. My thinking was at least if you break an alloy one you can just fix it with the sleeve. Not so easy with carbon.

I have the stormstar and at 6ft 6 fit in it bloody well, just wouldnt want to buddy up width wise- in terms of poles, having run tents with carbon poles and aluminium poles the weight savings are not worth the hassle when shit goes wrong- have had plenty of the carbon style snap on me (not with Kuiu but other brands) so I would suggest aluminium

Have mountain star and rate it. Yeah second that on the mesh, my dog stretched out in the morning and caught the mesh with a claw on the first outing. Resulted in a small tear, wasn't stoked...

I have a Mountain Star 2 Man model. Great tent. Have the Carbon Fibre poles - no issues to date but I treat them gently.
If you buy this tent I suggest you also get the Footprinf if it's on sale. The floor of the inner tent is pretty thin and I already have two small holes in it from putting the inner floor on bare ground. A layer under the floor would be good protection. Otherwise you could perhaps make a footprint yourself from Tyvek or an equivalent sourced here ... ?

Would be enough space for a couple dogs, just beware it’s a light tent meaning lightweight mesh and floor, carbon poles are good but need to be gentle on them… definitely a great tent though

They seem real good value for money with the sale on. Been tossing up between kuiu Mountain Star vs MSR Hubba Hubba, think this sale has made the decision

I had the carbon poles peel a little, sent kuiu a photo and the reply I got was a tracking number of a new set being sent out, great tent, like mine, would be tight with two blokes

Awesome tent. I have alloy poles because they were out of carbon at the time and I have no desire to get carbon now for an upgrade. I think the weight difference is like 30grams and there’s a reason the storm star has alloy poles.

    I got the carbon poles.
I figured why shell out for a lightweight tent then have the heavier poles.
Time will tell how they go I guess.

The Carbon Poles that came with mine are made by Easton and are very sturdy, unlike a lot of other carbon items supplied by some companies.
You would have to have a pretty decent mishap to break one.
I’m glad I chose the carbon poles.

From my understanding the carbon poles aren't actually lighter
