Couple of questions before i press buy now, carbon poles worth the upgrade and is the internal size suitable for a big boofy 6'2" and one or two dogs..

I've got one, am 6ft. Love it its a great tent.
One thing to mention with respect to dogs is that most of the inner is made of mesh so might not be the most robust??
Never bothered with the carbon poles. My thinking was at least if you break an alloy one you can just fix it with the sleeve. Not so easy with carbon.

Big enough for a bloke and a couple dogs. Cant wait to use mine in the tops
I have the stormstar and at 6ft 6 fit in it bloody well, just wouldnt want to buddy up width wise- in terms of poles, having run tents with carbon poles and aluminium poles the weight savings are not worth the hassle when shit goes wrong- have had plenty of the carbon style snap on me (not with Kuiu but other brands) so I would suggest aluminium
Have mountain star and rate it. Yeah second that on the mesh, my dog stretched out in the morning and caught the mesh with a claw on the first outing. Resulted in a small tear, wasn't stoked...

I have a Mountain Star 2 Man model. Great tent. Have the Carbon Fibre poles - no issues to date but I treat them gently.
If you buy this tent I suggest you also get the Footprinf if it's on sale. The floor of the inner tent is pretty thin and I already have two small holes in it from putting the inner floor on bare ground. A layer under the floor would be good protection. Otherwise you could perhaps make a footprint yourself from Tyvek or an equivalent sourced here ... ?
Would be enough space for a couple dogs, just beware it’s a light tent meaning lightweight mesh and floor, carbon poles are good but need to be gentle on them… definitely a great tent though
They seem real good value for money with the sale on. Been tossing up between kuiu Mountain Star vs MSR Hubba Hubba, think this sale has made the decision ;)

I had the carbon poles peel a little, sent kuiu a photo and the reply I got was a tracking number of a new set being sent out, great tent, like mine, would be tight with two blokes
Awesome tent. I have alloy poles because they were out of carbon at the time and I have no desire to get carbon now for an upgrade. I think the weight difference is like 30grams and there’s a reason the storm star has alloy poles.
I got the carbon poles.
I figured why shell out for a lightweight tent then have the heavier poles.
Time will tell how they go I guess.
The Carbon Poles that came with mine are made by Easton and are very sturdy, unlike a lot of other carbon items supplied by some companies.
You would have to have a pretty decent mishap to break one.
I’m glad I chose the carbon poles.
Used the mountain star 2 and msr hubba hubba 2 back to back and found the msr was more spacious inside, quicker to erect with experience as mountain star was new. I did find when packing up that the mountain star tent bag is rather pathetic. So far it's a positive change from msr to kuiu in the tent department .
Correct me If I'm wrong but carbon has less lifespan than aluminum yes?
Just wanna thank everyone for talking me into buying one of these. That did help sort out quite a bit of the marketing noise for me. So many brands out there
Simple velcro ski straps could help?
Got myself a nice air mat and a pillow while I was at it. You can only be pushed down the stairs by the wifey once haha

Agreed, the bag is so shit I switched out to one of these. Adds a bit of weight but plenty of space

if the msr is more spacious, quicker to erect and packs down better why is the kuiu a positive change ?
I just put it up for the first time with my daughter to check if it had any defects. All good. I do think it's worth watching the YouTube vid as it went up/down and back in the slip easy az. Put in all poles loose first (red white then blue) then lock in the short blue pole first.
Keen to try it all out properly now
I gave up on the tent bag KUIU gave me for the Stormstar, had to be perfect everytime and when packing off in a hurry it was a nightmare. So I went and bought Sea to Summit EVAC Compression Sacks for my sleeping bag/quilt and the tent and its made it so much easier to just get off the hill and go.
Question on the 6" pegs. Are these legitimately viable for wet NZ muddy ground or is everyone using the MSR pegs?
I got the Easton 8" Nail Pegs and they are wicked in my opinion- can really smash them in and they've held in some pretty gnarly weather
What’s the verdict between MSR hubba hubba and mountain star? Got an old Hubba hubba and it got smoked in Fiordland

Bringing this one up again - the endless sale at Kuiu on these Mountain Stars has me wondering how everyone is getting on with their purchase. Alloy poles still the go? Go good through winter?
I am fly camping most of the time in NI bush but would like something for more open country/colder weather
I bought one on the sale, setup in the back yard, hope the material is stronger than it looks!
I've been wondering why they have been 40 percent off for so long now aswell. It finally got to me and I purchased one to replace my old kuiu mountain star that is now leaking.
I've used my old one all over nz had it in torrential rain and some crazy wind and it held up well. I did have to sit up half the night holding it up in the wind but I'd doubt many tents would have held up in these winds.
I wondered why the sale price has been going for so long, i reckon the must be bringing out a new version as its been around for a while.
I’m thinking the same, why I’m hesitant to purchase one but I need a tent
