    MSR thru hiker 100 wing.

My go to bush kit has been an old hunter
Hooped Bivvy, weighs in about 1100
Never used flys alot and have the
Old huntec fly which is industrial but awesome just
    Weighs a bit.

    A mate has offered me
A new MSR Thru hiker 100 wing
Which weighs in about 530.size of big
    Lion brown can..lol.

Does anyone have any experience with these msr flys?

Do I flick my old huntec bivvy fly
And go fancy pants light weight with MSR?

    Thoughts and experience welcome

    Cheers

Sorry no experience of the MSR but my cheap 3m sq one is about 1kg which is the same as my tent so the tent wins most trips

These look reasonably big and still light - 400g ish

    Expensive though

My old Huntech bivvy stays home - too heavy

No help sorry, but there comes a time in life when pack weight becomes important as the joints and body start to complain. Also are you hard on gear, or more like are you sure this thing will stand up to the riggers of many nights outdoors. I have found the more light weight the harder on the wallet. The other option is buy try and if you dont like sell, Gear closet on facebook is where a lot of trampers, climbers, and the likes buy and sell

Yep sorry I'm the same, never even heard of that but does look similar to the Stiltarp2, same as the link above. I've got one of these and its a great bit of kit at 400gms, it can be pitched in as many different set ups as you can think of. You do need to seam seal the seam down the middle. Picked mine up at H&F for $200 a few years back, just checked and they are $220 so cheaper than the link above. Don't know how much your mate wants for his MSR but it may be a similar to the new price of the Stiltarp2

Msr makes good gear mate, 500 is steep for a tarp though. Could get a Cubanfiber for the same dollars. Get the rab siltarp listed above and save a few hundy

I have a siltarp ll and its good. The dimensions are a bit odd. It could be a bit longer when in A frame set up. I think the DD ultra light might be good too. I am kind of tempted by cuben fibre. So light and still strong and more waterproof.
