    New Knife

Lost my Benchmade Steep Country a while ago and just recently found it. In the meantime, my lovely fiancé gave me the go ahead to replace it with something (she doesn't know I found it )
So, not being one to let an opportunity pass me by, I'm looking at buying something new, budget of about $250-300 max, fixed blade, gotta be a good all rounder, have a decent drop so it skins well, and I prefer a "holds a decent edge for a long time" kind of steel than a "you could split an atom with this edge... but only one atom" kind of steel.
    Recommendations?

Esee 4 is my all rounder but it is more of all round bushcraft knife than a hunting knife, can take a good edge but I use it for firewood splitting to kindling...

Best all round knife for me to date is the Bark River Fox River in 3V steel. The knives below will come in just over your $300 limit, but it will be worth the little bit extra.

Fox River 3V Black Canvas Micarta

If you want something a little bit bigger, I just got a Bark River Fox River II in 3V steel and field dressed three goats out with it and I have to say, the little bit extra in size is very nice.

Have a chat with someone on the forum, and get a custom made job, there are at least 3 on the forum that you could pick from

Here you go Ryan. Go custom and you'll never bust 'em. Hamish will even etch "gifted by my lovely missus coz I fibbed about my other knife" on to it. Ha ha ha ha.

I can make something if you are not in a hurry that will come in under you budget, have seven under construction at the moment, all shapped just sanding before they go off to heat treatment, all seven are drop points. Happy to show you some pics of the shape, they are all going to have micarta and g10 handles with kydex sheaths...but I also have a knife that I had made for me years ago by Brent Sandow, a South African knife maker who moved to Nz, its in extremely good condition, has a D2 steel blade that is about 62 Rockwell, the blade is coated in smooth grey thermocoat to stop any rust getting near it, has a tapered tang and a micarta handle with a really nice leather sheath, again happy to send you a picture if you want it, I would not sell it but I need to pay for my next lot of heat treatment and steel, it will come in at yourbudget, and thats good deal on this one.

Intersting comment in the link about stropping to restore edge.

Not sure if you can get them over in NZ but the best knife I have ever owned was a German made Linder Superedge 1 in ATS 34 stainless.

Buy one of Johns raffle tickets & wait for the draw. You might have some sneaky pocket money if you are the lucky one
