The Zeiss rangefinder binos are better anyhow;)
This has to be one of the best jokes Ive heard for a long time. It never gets old!

They have been in all sorts of weather and have held up so far. Worse weather than what my scopes fogged up in surprisingly.
What the fuck does a drop short (.308) owner want with rangefinders anyway? I spose if you go out with Greg somewhere you can at least be useful and give him confirmation on some ranges :P
Ha ha ha. Everyone gives it shit but you all know its perfectly capable.

Any updates on those Leica HD-B's ETA or are they just a fairy tail?
More chance of a fairy tale coming true!!!
The price conveniently creeped up as well.

Hard to show true potential when it gets old and the thrill of the chase is gone and no drugs are needed!

I just came across these on the reloaders website: Leica Geovid 8x42 HD-B $3899
Leica Geovid 8x42 HD-B
Shame they weren't 10x42! Does anybody know what the 10x42 model is worth?
Happy days... Freshly picked up from local shop. Ordered on 12th January.... 2013 that is...

Common Sam!!!! Spill the beans...
Sorry mate, been a bit busy...
So far I have managed a quick look in the middle of the day (in bright sunshine yesterday) and got consistent ranges on a tree at 1,477m, it was the furtherest thing I could see to range from the office however. Yesterday evening and this evening I was able to get ranges out to 2,000m easily, and I was impressed by the speed of the ranging, basically instant. The Swarovski SLC's I have (borrowed 10x42's) are slightly brighter at last light, but bugger all in practical terms. Otherwise the glass is very nice in these. The geovids are more comfortable to hold though (even though they are heavier) with the curved barrels resting nicely into the palms of your hands on a natural angle.
I haven't had a chance to load up my ballistic data onto a micro sd card to see how it goes, maybe tomorrow...
Mine finally showed up this morning, hopefully I will have time to play with them tonight & maybe compare them to some Zeiss RF binos

2000m is a decent distance! Thanks for the updates thus far chaps. Keen to hear your thoughts on the ballistic data feature Sam. Nice to see the are finally starting to turn up. Looks like fairy tails can come true after all!
How big is it Greg? Looks huge in the pic
187 x 135 x 80mm

I have a borrowed pair of Zeiss binos to play with.
Interestingly the Zeiss are better in very low light than the HDBs .......
I prefer the HDBs overall, the ranging is very quick & I can easily see the readout.
I might be doing something wrong with the Zeiss, but I can barely see the display in decent daylight & need to move them to see it.... very frustrating.
May have been a faulty set Sam?
My (Now old, coz I got them within days of ordering when they were available on the market:D) swaro's are adjustable thru 4 brightness levels and is easy to read on the highest setting in any conditions I have used.
Pain in the ass if you do not return it to a hunting setting as it is friggin bright when you zap a target in low light.
IIRC I had the same trouble with the ones I tried many moons ago now, when they first showed up, might even have been the same pair....
Very nice glass, but overall not my cup of tea, so I got a set of basically NIB HD Geovids for half the cost & was very happy with them.
But now you bought Leicas, worth maybe $800 more than the swaro's (Got mine for under 3K) and they have also obviously copied the hull design of the swaro? Only difference in the Leica will be the glass and ballistic calc which is neither here nor there if you have a smart phone:D
You are fishing again Dave & I will bite...
You really get some great deals, new Swaros for 3k.....like your Blasers.... Bargin....
The retail on the Swaros, Zeiss & Leica are quite similar.....
The ballistic calc should be great, had a little play & using the G7 ballistic calculation it is spot on with Shooter, which means out to 1000 yards I can range the animal push the button & have the dial straight away, without having to put all the numbers, including angle into Shooter, much much faster.....
Not to mention the superior range finder in the Leica from my experience. I almost got a pair of the EL's when the Leica were delayed yet again. Quoted price was the same as I paid for the Leica's. I'm really happy I waited to get what I wanted...
