The Sniper has been designed for scope mounting. we got the manufacturer to put the previous model on a major diet, put in a copper carrier board and better low reflectivity lens.

Anyone buying make sure it is from EST GROUP Co., Ltd as there are others now pinching the name and flogging off rubbish gear.

This new Maxtoch M24 Sniper is a beauty. Very well made light. After disassembling and testing gadgetman and I both gave it 10/10.

It is specifically designed by kiwi boys as an all-purpose hunter light and incorporates some high tech electronic features. It is light at 270gms and ideal for both scope mounting or handheld spottie. Stock they produce 83,000 lux (hotspot intensity) with a range of 580 meters, and dedomed they produce 173k lux with 840m. No trouble lighting up a cream house on the farm at 1 kilometer with these figures. We did NOT design it as a pencil beam - we wanted a beam with both long distance plus ability to scan paddocks in seconds - which it does.

Takes two rechargeable 18650 batts - use high quality ones like panasonic 3100s for max runtime. They are regulated unlike the LL torches and do not just run down with diminishing light over a couple of hours. On full continuous power they will last 100 minutes on high - with no light dimming over that time. Med is still powerful, great for possums, and med and lo will give umpteen hours of runtime.

They are designed with mode memory so always come back on in last mode used - effectively an on/off in high or med etc. Build quality, lens quality, reflector etc excellent, and they come in a very nice canvas carry bag, spare tail switch, spare O-rings and lanyard. Having seen both, this is a much better proposition than any of the LL range. It has more advanced electronics, much better performance and at a fraction of the price. The first Maxtoch occasionally gave tailcap switch issues but the last 2 models have been very good. Gadget and I have been playing with the new M24 sample, dedomed it, and its an absolute beauty. M24 is about $80NZ delivered.

Note: Maxtoch also produce a bigger heavier 440gm light - the SN6X-2X. This also now incorporates our recommended electronic upgrades and pumps out 120-125k lux standard, and an expected stonking 250k lux dedomed. That is huge power - ideal as a truck spottie etc. Again just $90-95NZ delivered.

Best hunting lights I've seen in terms of all-purpose capability (we did not want just pencil beam), value and performance. Get them!

Yes- as gadget says watch out for knock-oofs. Maxtoch becoming a market leader for well priced performance lights and there are outfits trying to rip them off. This $37 light proneshooter mentions is not a maxtoch - God knows what it is - so take care:

I mentioned the comments on here about how helpful she is and she was totally buzzed!

The 1000lm one would probably be good for possum spotting and the body is 1inch so you could mount it on a scope

Will they not make them without the dome on?

Today is the day. Still undecided between the M24 sniper and the next one up - I think it may end up replacing my hawker hunter xt2 and go on my rifle so the sniper being the lighter one seems more sensible. Love new toys!

I find it amazing how technology changes things... These torches are throwing out more light than the traditional sealed beam handheld spot with the motorcycle battery in a daypack! And hands up everyone who is OVER humping one of those damn things around on your back all night

Tracy - I will check again with maxtoch but the torch pictured in the dhgate SN6X-2S link (posted first above) is not an SN6X-2S. Does not look like any maxtoch I know of and we've been testing their range for 2-3 years. The other link you post is actually for a TA6X-7 - which we have had to NZ for testing. It's not the torch pictured in the dhgate first link.

The TA6X-7 a good little XML torch which can be operated with 2 batts or as a stubby with one - also comes with red and green lenses. Versatile wee light. Nowhere near as good as the M24 Sniper.

I know what you mean about big halogen spotlights - our team was shooting just on 1000 bunnies per night couple of years back using quite a collection of lights including handheld halogens and an HID spot. This got us seriously researching new light tech. Got a helluva shock when I lined the maxtoch up with my halogen 6" spottie - the maxtoch was better and retained good spill/beam width. I haven't seen a big handheld on a trip since.

Yeah sorry, crossed wires. No that thing on DH does not look legit for sure.

Amanda just mentioned that they are developing a rear cap with the remote switch on it for the M24 sniper. I ordered the one they have but she came back and said it didn't fit the sniper. I think a remote on/off would be handy.

I have to say that I am amazed at the power of even these cheapie no-name things:

I've got one of these on its way and would like to try doing the operation on it

Now - URGENT QUESTION - need some feedback today.

Maxtoch making the pressure switch for M24 - How long should cord be between tailcap and pressure switch. Presuming scope mounting I'm thinking max 40m to forestock? 30-40-50? Thoughts - I don't use them.
