I have the NZ Maps app on phone.
Interested in what the Pro version offers,is like to use etc.
Is it worth the $20subscription?
Matches dedicated GPS such as Garmin's for navigation.

This is my "go to App" for topo maps and I use it quite a bit. I find it works well and I can honestly say I've never had any issues with it.
Not having used (or needed to use) any other App I can't compare it to other offerings out there, however there are two functions I really like:
1. The GPS tracking functionality onto the map in use. It's always bang-on and has been helpful a couple of times in flat fog-bound terrain.
2. The ability to "zoom in" on the map. This is to say you can enlarge the part of the map you're interested in to check detail.
I have my local area permanently downloaded but if I'm going somewhere new I check out the larger area before I head out and cache the map to the phone memory. I don't use the route-planning function but I guess it could be handy.
Overall its easy to use and does everything I need it to do. I have been a PRO user for 6 years now and its the most I've ever paid for any APP. Is it worth $20? That's up to you, but when hard copies are almost as expensive per sheet I guess you can justify it.
I don’t have any experience with NZ Maps app, but as an alternative you can consider Topo GPS. In app purchase of the Topographic Map for NZ was something like $5. Works just fine for planning and spot checking when out in the bush - provided that you did download the applicable maps to your phone. It can also track your movement as you go along for future reference.

What you see, is what you get!
Nz topo50 iirc $5 or there abouts for topo maps of the whole island north or south (over a gb of memory) . Uses GPS function on phone OK, haven't played with route planning or way points as have a Garmin that lives in the pack, phone is easy to have in a pocket and a quick check on things
I purchased it and the better topo50 and downloaded the whole north island. It works well and has got me out of some confusion before.
NZTopo50 is the best 5 dollars I ever spent. Shows DOC-managed (open hunting permit) areas.
The pro version is easy better. You can add as many waypoints as you want. Definitely worth it.
Thanks guys will try 3 day trial.
See how it goes.
Interested to see if you can get track up on map and go to a waypoint.
Tracking and waypoints work well.just
Make sure you zoom into the area on your area on the WiFi before you go bush in
