    NZ Pricing - Boots

Its frustrating how much we get shafted with pricing in NZ - I have been in the UK for a couple of weeks for work and good boots (eg. Lowa, Asolo, meindl etc) generally come in at around $400 NZD rather than the $600 at home. Thats a big difference - and unfortunately I can't afford a flight every time I want a pair of boots!

Does anyone in the industry know - Is it just a scale thing? Or do we get done over with taxes etc?

I could imagine that there is a much larger transport component to the pricing but not to the extent you indicate.

Its a pain, isnt it. We get a hard deal with scopes and a hole bunch of stuff. Shipping must a factor, but hell at $200 they must be paying people to swim over there and get them.

Keep an eye out on trademe when your last pair is starting to wear. Sometimes a used but in good nick pair comes up for next to nothing. I got a pair of boots for $13 and they're in not bad shape. I can run them into the ground without worrying at a price like that.

Phillip In the Inuit culture the women chew the boots to soften the leather up for the men. Perhaps a job for the librarian that might endear her to you?

hmm yes and this is not just limited to hunting/boots stuff.

Motorcycle kit (name brand stuff) is often hundreds cheaper than the same thing over here. Maybe its the quantities plus shipping plus going through not only the overseas agents but the local importer then the retailer... dunno but it IS annoying when you see what others in other countries pay for stuff.

look at bushmaster AR's over in the US they are $400us... and over here thousands!

Sierra Trading Post is a good website too. You just have to be patient and wait for things to come up. Join their mailing list as the stock, specials and discounts seem to change every couple of days...
