    Oilskin? Raincoats

I remember whenst young in the early 80s- my raincoat I wore to school was an oilskin rain coat- also as a teen my first hunting rain coat was an oilskin jacket- maybe macpac maybe fairydown.... before 3 layer ptfe nonsense.

Sitting still in a 3 layer coat is fine when it's raining- but soon as ya start producing sweat under a coat whenst rainin- she's all over.

When are companies gonna re start making oilskin raincoats? Are there any out there now?

Yes, there’s still a few manufacturers of oilskin gear around and I still use mine. Went to the dark side of high tech supposedly breathable rain gear but usually revert back to the old faithful oilskin gear, of which some is 40 plus years old.

@ANTSMAN First places I would start looking would be agri stores like PGG , Wrightsons etc. Its been a while since I got mine...(Swandri circa 1991...) but it is still going strong though it appears to have shrunk a size or two since I got it so I can no longer wear jerseys under it.....

Blackwoods safety also has some so safety places may also be worth a try.....

Edit- It looks like Swandri may still be making them too....But maybe not the old school drovers coat....

On that thought, saddlery places may be worth trying too...

If you have one from the 1980's, hold onto it. The oilskin has a much higher thread count than that manufactured today. And they certainly don't rip as easily as one purchased at last years field days did

I wear oilskins all the time. Love them.
Outback trading, driazabone, swanndri, Styx mill are all still making them.
Just got a new fleece lined outback with the long tail, hood and short sleeves from army surplus store for $200.

Tend to be heavy and bulky if you need to carry one in your pack, but if wearing it all day they are great

Thankyou all- I'm onto Outback- I also dug out a hiviz pilskin I got from Styx mill in chch 10 years ago.

I'm keen to find lightweight unlined rain coats for tops hunting- I remember all the manufacturers in the 80s had them in the shops-
