I was thinking I'll get the traditional and modify the tip to give it a small drop point.

Do they have, like a shim or any thing between the blade and wood? To take the wear?

Honestly bro, you should stop asking the questions, because you will get 100 different opinions. At $30 ish ,Just buy one, try it for yourself. And report to us if you like it or not. If you don’t quite like it , give it to your nephew, if you hate it , sell it to your enemy. If you can’t spare the $30, remember that anything else will probably be more expensive.
