What'd you think of kaweka meals?
I thought they where ok a, but heavy and rather unpractical to heat in the bush:(

I find the backcountry ones pretty good for freeze dry.
That stuff should be banned.
Your meal looks to die for mate:)

The "meat" in them is horrible. I didn't finish either of the 2 I did tried. But the yougurt stuff is the shit
Actually I bought some Outdoor Gourmet today too. Ive tried a couple of them before and they were quite edible. Anything freeze dried is never going to be awesome though. Its amazing how much nicer it tastes out in the bush :)

You guys should try dehydrating your food for hunting, tramping and everything outdoors. Its the best, saves so much weight, it honestly takes 3/4's of the weight out. I've been dehydrating my meals for tramping for some months now and I would never look back. Can make the tastiest meals that will last for years sealed and placed in the freezer.
I have a draw in the freezer dedicated to my dehydrated meals!
Which breakfasts? Their porridge is damn nice I thought, and I don't even like porridge!
In my limited experience back country stuff is good once you learn what to stay away from. The spag bol is fucking bad for example. The beef ones are good....haven't tried venison one yet.
nz_hunter is onto it.
The other thing with the freeze dried stuff is the way it is prepared. When you arrive at camp open the bag and put it into a billy and add the required amount of water. Then go about setting up camp, spinning yarns, getting the fire set, ... It needs at least 2 hours to rehydrate properly and do not add salt when it is rehydrating, add that at the end of cooking. If you will be leaving for a day hunt and coming back to camp then set it before you head out.
If you pour boiling water into a bag of cardboard for a 10-20min soak then just expect soggy cardboard. That can be done at a push if you are out of time, just don't expect much.
