Look at secondhand then. If you're struggling with Macpac prices (which are very reasonable IMO at sale prices) anything cheaper is only going to be heartache. Pack blow out on day 1 of a 3 day trip will make for a very mad Maori.
The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

Cactus equipment make really rugged stuff, but look for secondhand as the new ones are around $600.

You would be able to pick up a macpac ravine 2nd hand for that, comfortable, bullet proof and I have had a fair bit of weight in mine with no issues apart from bloody heavy(never should have pulled the trigger on that 2nd deer). Not quiet the 70L your after, mine is 65, heaps big enough for 5 days though.

Agree it is not an item to skimp money on, be a big pain trying to walk out with a broken strap on a pack, harness systems also matter regards comfort.

Get a pack too big and you will only take stuff you don't need/use, my 2 cents

    Cheers

I probably would have liked to go a little bigger but then I would've started carrying in a heap of useless shit!!!
