nope,they keep whole pack dry from rain...but no good if you ford a deep river or need to pack float in a oh shite moment.... 2-3 smaller plastic bags is better than one big one. heavy polythene ones are better still. these days the big yellow pack liner I used to use gets more use as a ground sheet than anything else.
